Skoolie (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the Skoolie mobile application and website at skooliezw.com. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect personal information when students and parents use our services.
1. Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to students who register for a Skoolie account, parents or guardians whose contact details are added to a student profile, and visitors to our website.
2. Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly and information generated through use of the app:
- Account details: full name, phone number, password (stored securely hashed), and city.
- Education profile: curriculum (ZIMSEC or Cambridge), education level, grade or form, and selected subjects.
- Parent or guardian details: name and email address, added by the student so we can send monthly progress reports.
- Verification: one-time passcodes (OTP) sent to your phone during registration, login, and password recovery.
- Learning activity: time spent studying, days active, lesson and revision watch time, self-examine test attempts and scores, study timetable usage, streaks, XP, and badges.
- Ask & Learn: question titles, descriptions, topics, and images you submit for teacher responses.
- Support chat: messages you send to our support team through the app.
- Profile photo: optional profile picture if you upload one.
- Payment information: subscription status, billing history, and payment references. Card payments are processed by Stripe; EcoCash payments are processed through Paynow. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
- Device and notifications: push notification tokens so we can send study reminders and important app alerts.
- Technical data: app version, general usage logs, and API request metadata needed to operate and secure the platform.
3. How we use your information
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you securely.
- Deliver lessons, revision videos, self-examine tests, study goals, and other learning features.
- Track progress and generate monthly learning reports for students and parents.
- Process subscriptions, trials, and payments.
- Respond to support requests and moderate Ask & Learn content.
- Send OTP codes, study reminders, push notifications, and parent report emails.
- Improve the app, fix bugs, monitor system performance, and prevent fraud or misuse.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms and Conditions.
4. Parent monthly reports
If a student adds a parent or guardian email address, we may send a monthly learning report at the end of each month. Reports include study time, active days, streaks, self-examine performance, time per subject, personalised summaries, insights, and recommended focus areas — based on actual app usage during that month. Parents receive these emails only for addresses the student has added to their profile.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data only with:
- Service providers who help us operate the platform (hosting, email delivery, payment processing, push notifications).
- Teachers and administrators who manage content and support student questions within the Skoolie admin system.
- Legal authorities when required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Skoolie and its users.
6. Data security
We use industry-standard measures to protect personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and restricted access to production systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your data responsibly.
7. Data retention
We retain account and learning data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to meet legal, accounting, and operational requirements. You may request account deletion using our account deletion request form or by emailing info@skooliezw.com.
8. Your choices and rights
- Update your profile, subjects, and parent contact details in the app.
- Manage push notification permissions on your device.
- Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by emailing info@skooliezw.com or using our account deletion request form.
- Parents may ask us to stop sending reports by contacting us or asking the student to remove their email from the profile.
9. Children and students
Skoolie is designed for school-aged learners. Accounts are typically created by students or with parental awareness. We encourage parents to review their child’s use of the app and to keep parent email details up to date for monthly reports.
10. International processing
Our services are operated from Zimbabwe and may use cloud infrastructure or service providers in other countries. By using Skoolie, you consent to the processing of your information as described in this policy.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of Skoolie after changes means you accept the updated policy.
